Available Varieties

Lake Mousery is a private non-profit mousery located in Montgomery County, Maryland. Lake Mousery was established in 2015. The mousery specializes in Seal Point Siamese, Recessive Roan, and Extreme Black. Lake Mousery aspires to develop domesticated, healthy, and selectively-bred fancy mice by maintaining isolated lines with minimal out-crosses.

Seal Point Siamese

Seal Point Siamese was the first variety established at Lake Mousery. As a result, these mice are often the largest at Lake Mousery. Seal Point Siamese is a non-agouti mouse with two copies of the Himalayan gene. Proper shading must be maintained when breeding Seal Point Siamese, which results in a magnificent contrast between dark and light fur originating from the rump and snout.

Recessive Roan

Recessive Roan is a dynamic variety because it does not follow the same rules of heredity like the other coat varieties. Instead, pure Recessive Roan will produce a litter with a random quantity of Black, Merle, and Roan mice. Regardless of its unpredictable quality, the Recessive Roan gene produces beautifully white-ticked mice on a light or dark bluish-grey coat.

Extreme Black

Extreme Black is a lab originating gene, which was discovered among the descendants of an irradiated mouse in 1956. It is recessive to all the other agouti alleles. Extreme Black produces mice that can not have yellow hairs. Extreme Black serves as the foundation variety at Lake Mousery because it integrates a higher contrast and rich dark coloration within the Seal Point Siamese and Recessive Roan.
